Great American Classic Movies at the Orpheum Memphis

Hey Bailey Creek! Have you seen a movie at the Orpheum Theater lately? With all of the great new movies hitting theaters this summer, it may not be too appealing to view some of the older classics in a movie theater. But if you think about it, this is your chance to get the real movie experience if you weren’t around to see it when the movie first premiered. So, the Summer Movie Series is the perfect opportunity for you to see firsthand why these movies are American Classics. Plus, you know it’s not a waste of money because you already love so many of these movies.
The theater is showing some of the greatest movies of all time, and now they are in the final stretch. I know that paying to watch movies that were released long ago may not be the most favorable thing to do this summer, but it’ can really be fun! You can make a real movie experience out of it; popcorn, candy, and the added bonus of one of the biggest theater screens in Memphis!
Actually, some of my favorite movies of all time are playing at the Orpheum. One of them, Sound of Music is actually playing tonight at 7:15 pm. All movies are showing at 7:15 pm and you can catch the matinee (10:30 am) for a few of them. Be sure to check the website for details.
So if you’re not busy, come out to the Orpheum (about 30 minutes away) and enjoy the ultimate movie expereince for yourself! Here are the remaining movies:
- The Sound of Music – July 29
- The Wizard of Oz – July 30
- Top Gun – August 19
- Rocky Horror Picture Show – August 20
- Casablanca – September 17 (What a finale!)
Let’s Go Back to the Future @ the Orpheum!

Hey Bailey Creek! What is your favorite old school movie? One of my favorite 80’s movies of all time is ‘Back to the Future‘. Apparently, other people love the movie as well, as it’s being featured at the Orpheum for their summer movie series, this coming Wednesday, July 21st.
So you know what that means? Yep Bailey Creek, it’s time to go back to 1985. The movie will show at the matinee (10:30 am) and the evening showings (7:15 pm). This is not your ordinary movie screening. There’s a contest before hand: all you have to do is dress like your future self. I’m not entirely sure what your future self will look like, but I’m sure you have an idea.
Tickets are $7 for adults and $6 for kids. They have a good assortment of other movies playing for the rest of the summer, so you should check them out if you get the chance.
And Yet…Another Sequel

Well, if it’s the third movie, it can’t really be called a sequel right? Is a ‘threequel’ then? Anyway, as is the trend now, another movie has joined the ‘movies with more than 2 installments’ franchise. Will Smith’s and Tommy Lee Jones’ summer 1997 hit ‘Men in Black’ is making a third installment, and it’s slated for release for the summer of 2012.
Now, I don’t really care what the movie is as long as Will Smith is in it, but come on. How many times can aliens attempt to take over the Earth? In addition to that, a sequel to ‘Independence Day’ is also being negotiated. I will have total respect for the writers of both movies if they can come up with a substantially creative plot for both films. Well, the upcoming summers should prove to be very interesting.
I’m more excited about the movies coming out this summer.
What do you think about the onslaught of sequels lately?
Youtube Doing a Test Run on Paying to Watch Movies

On Jan 22, Youtube will be doing a test run on their site by charging from $1 to $5 to view movies from the 2009 and 2010 Sundance Film Festival, and will run this until the end of january.
They are doing this in an attempt to bring more attention to independent films, which I highly approve of, and to basically see if viewers would pay for content.
What about you? If Youtube offered videos for download or rent, would you do so?
