Hey Bailey Creek! Have you seen a movie at the Orpheum Theater lately? With all of the great new movies hitting theaters this summer, it may not be too appealing to view some of the older classics in a movie theater. But if you think about it, this is your chance to get the real movie experience if you weren’t around to see it when the movie first premiered. So, the Summer Movie Series is the perfect opportunity for you to see firsthand why these movies are American Classics. Plus, you know it’s not a waste of money because you already love so many of these movies. :)

The theater is showing some of the greatest movies of all time, and now they are in the final stretch. I know that paying to watch movies that were released long ago may not be the most favorable thing to do this summer, but it’ can really be fun! You can make a real movie experience out of it; popcorn, candy, and the added bonus of one of the biggest theater screens in Memphis!

Actually, some of my favorite movies of all time are playing at the Orpheum.  One of them, Sound of Music is actually playing tonight at 7:15 pm. All movies are showing at 7:15 pm and you can catch the matinee (10:30 am) for a few of them. Be sure to check the website for details.

So if you’re not busy, come out to the Orpheum (about 30 minutes away) and enjoy the ultimate movie expereince for yourself! Here are the remaining movies:

  • The Sound of Music – July 29
  • The Wizard of Oz – July 30
  • Top Gun – August 19
  • Rocky Horror Picture Show – August 20
  • Casablanca – September 17 (What a finale!)

EJ's Simple Ribs and Rib Sauce

Hey Bailey Creek! Are there any residents out there who are new to the Memphis metro area? If so, I’m sure you’re exciting to taste and see all that the Memphis/Collierville area has to offer, and trust me, it’s a lot. Besides music, food (more specifically BBQ) is the heart and soul of Memphis. The City Tasting Tour of Memphis wants to introduce you to this, with a sampling of great food from local restaurants.

One of the most popular of the city tasting tours is the BBQ ‘Cue Hopping Tour’. You’ve heard of bar hopping right? Well this is ‘Cue’ hopping. On the tour, you’ll be visiting all of the restaurants that serve BBQ around town. You’ll not only be eating your hearts out with BBQ, but you’ll be right in the heart of town; Beale Street, the home of the blues, and the birthplace of Rock n’ Roll are all at your fingertips. Enjoy the sounds of local musicians as you tour the restaurants.

What kind of food can you look forward to? Well there’s: authentic southern style dry rubbed ribs, wet ribs dripping with sauce, spicy pulled pork, barbecued brisket, barbecued shrimp, cornbread, baked beans, and coleslaw.

This tour is Thursdays only at 3 pm, so it’s perfect for your summer free time. The cost of the ticket is $62 plus tax and well worth it. This will be your perfect introduction to the Memphis area.

Are you hungry yet?

Hey Bailey Creek! What is  your favorite old school movie? One of my favorite 80’s movies of all time is ‘Back to the Future‘. Apparently, other people love the movie as well, as it’s being featured at the Orpheum for their summer movie series, this coming Wednesday, July 21st.

So you know what that means? Yep Bailey Creek, it’s time to go back to 1985.  The movie will show at the matinee (10:30 am) and the evening showings (7:15 pm). This is not your ordinary movie screening. There’s a contest before hand: all you have to do is dress like your future self. I’m not entirely sure what your future self will look like, but I’m sure you have an idea.

Tickets are $7 for adults and $6 for kids. They have a good assortment of other movies playing for the rest of the summer, so you should check them out if you get the chance.

Summer stress. I know you have had it, and I know you hate it. So what do you do to relieve that stress? Try a massage from Massage Therapy right here in Collierville.

A massage can be very, very relaxing. The soft music, aroma therapy, and the tension being released from your muscles takes you places you never thought that you could go after a stressful day at work, or after a long day period.

Massage Therapy offers a good selection of massages: trigger point, Swedish, deep tissue, sports, hot stone therapy, chair massage, prenatal, and more. There’s something for everybody! So guys, don’t shy away from massages; if you’re an active individual, a sports massage may be just what you need to revitalize your body.

The best thing about Massage Therapy is that they offer a $39 1-hour introductory massage special. That’s such a great price for a high quality massage! I definitely think you should try it out.  I know I plan to. ;)

What is your favorite kind of massage?

What are you looking forward to during this holiday weekend? Food, fun, and fireworks. That’s what I look forward to every 4th of July as we celebrate our great nation’s independence. Thankfully, 4th of July celebrations never roam too far from home. You can celebrate this holiday weekend right here in Collierville if you want!

Bring your family & friends to enjoy live entertainment, good food, children’s activities and a spectacular fireworks show – Don’t forget your lawn chairs! I repeat: DON’T FORGET YOUR LAWN CHAIRS! This is all taking place at H.W. Cox Park on Saturday, July 3rd. Food and vendors will be on site in the parking lot, and you can skip the traffic and enjoy a FREE ride to the park with a shuttle service that will travel between CHS and H. W. Cox Jr  Park, 5:30 p.m. – 10:30 p.m.

The 4th of July has always been one of my favorite holidays. What about you?

Here’s a lineup of the day’s events courtesy of Collierville Parks:

Made in Memphis: ‘Daylight Fades’ for Vampire Lovers

When “Daylight Fades,” the night follows, bringing darkness and danger.

GLASTONBURY, UNITED KINGDOM - NOVEMBER 25: A ...

Hey Bailey Creek! Have you ever been watching a movie that was made in your hometown or a place that you’re very familiar with and be able to say, ‘hey! I know that place!’ or ‘Hey! That’s my car!’ or ‘Hey! That’s me!’ (I’ve been able to say that last one. “) 0 Well, if you haven’t, you just may have your shot with a new movie that has been released to the public: ‘Daylight Fades‘.

Daylight Fades‘ is the newest movie to enter the realm of Vampire films. Allen Gadner wrote the script, and co-starred in the film, which apparently got pretty rave reviews. The film’s premier was Tuesday night at the Paradiso. The only two showings were completely sold out. The crowd was filled with a lot of filmmakers, musicians, and a lot of folks just wanting to see a good vampire flick.

One of the best things about the film, is that if Memphis didn’t already have such a prominent position on the map, this movie would definitely put it on there. The movie was not only shot in Memphis, but it was written in Memphis, the cast is primarily from Memphis, and mainly Memphis based artists are on the soundtrack. Now,  if that isn’t love for a city, I don’t know what is.

Another great thing about the movie is that it’s ‘real’. No people turning into bats, no sparkles, just realism. And I think that adds a certain edge to the film.

Keep checking the website for local screenings, because this film from Old School Pictures is sure to be big in the independent movie market!

Did you see it when it premiered?

Mellow Out, Dude

Pizza

Image via Wikipedia

Mellow. That’s the atmosphere when you enter any Mellow Mushroom restaurant. Along with some awesomely fantastic pizza, the motif is very alive and colorful, harboring on eclectic. This is a style that is rarely found in the Memphis area. Near the intersection of Forest Hill Irene Road and Poplar Avenue lies a world of blissful ambiance and wonderful pizza.

In a way, you can think of Mellow Mushroom as a coffee house without the coffee. It’s a place where you can chow down on your favorite pizza, while talking about anything at all. Sure you can do that at many restaurants around Bailey Creek and in the Collierville area, but how many PIZZA PLACES can you do this act, that has such an invigorating motif? Thought so. :)

The best thing about Mellow Mushroom is that, along with the crazy specialty pizzas the restaurant boasts such as the Mighty Meaty ( pepperoni, Italian sausage, ground beef, and ham) or the Mega Veggie ( sun-dried tomatoes, spinach, green peppers, mushrooms (of course), onions, black olives, tomatoes, broccoli, feta, banana peppers, artichoke hearts, and even tofu), you can combine whatever ingredients you want to make an awesome pizza just for  you!

You’ll never go home hungry, as everything, even the appetizers, are pretty good proportions. Don’t come looking for $1 slices however; pizzas, depending on size, range from $8-$25, while salads and appetizers range from $4-$8.

Mellow Mushroom pretty much hit the nail on the head when they said, “happiness is a warm slice of pizza”. :)

Directions from Bailey Creek Apartments: (It’s only 6 minutes away!)

Head northeast on N Bailey Woods Dr. Turn left at Bailey Woods Dr. Turn left at E Winchester Blvd.  Take 1st right onto S Houston Levee Rd. Take the 1st left onto W Poplar Ave. Turn left at Village Shops Dr. Mellow Mushroom will be on your left.

Okay, This Is A Little Weird

June 1, 2010 by akemp

We’ve all seen different takes on the first pitches in Major League Baseball games. From Presidents, to celebrities, to business men and women. Some were good, some not so great, some awful, and some just downright weird. Do we see the same kind of…creativity at Minor League games? Well, if you’re a Memphis Redbird fan and just happened to be at the game on May 13, you would have seen something out of the ordinary. A T-Rex threw the first pitch of the game. Sounds crazy right? See for yourself.

That’s one way to incite excitement. ;)
