Okay, now if counterfeiters can replicate this new $100 bill, then the future of the governments technology is in trouble.
Because of the recent increase in counterfeit bills floating around the country, the US Department of Treasury has taken to creating a brand new look for the good old Benjamin. Now instead of just the water mark and the portrait, the new bill includes at least 3 new security measures. One of them would make Harry Potter himself jealous! Well, maybe not, but it’s still kind of cool.
The new security thread located on the bill surpasses decades of technological advancement with the microprinted mobile image: When the bill is moved side to side, the image on the bill appears to move up and down, and it’s moved up and down, the image appears to move side to side. It may all just be an optical illusion, but hey, at least we won’t have to worry about people counterfeiting that bill…at least for a while.
The new bill will go into circulation later this year. Based on the video below, what do you think of the new design?

Between various not-exactly-ethical foreign governments that would have an interest in creating counterfeit American currency and high-end very technical criminals, I don’t think it will take too terribly long to create a believable counterfeit bill that could stand up to some scrutiny. Considering that they have already released the major details of the changes nearly a year before the new bill goes into circulation, I’m sure they are already working on it. Also, the older bills will still be legitimate currency as well, so nothing has really changed.
Boy, don’t I sound like a pessimist.
No, I wouldn’t say pessimist…exactly, lol. I do think that it will take a little longer for counterfeiters this time around, however. At least I’m hoping so. Now, as for the old bills, I can’t really say.
Just watch carefully! Thanks for commenting!
