Don’t Fret Over Small Spaces

Let’s face it, if you have a lot of stuff in your apartment, it can begin to look kind of small. Don’t worry however, there are plenty of options that you have to make your apartment appear bigger than it really is. The first rule is to clear out the clutter. I know that it’s hard to get rid of certain things, but in the end, it’ll be worth it.
Take this man for example. He’s an architect in Hong Kong, and he greened his apartment and made the most out of his 300 sq ft space. It’s actually pretty cool. You may not be able to do the same thing to your apartment, but it’s pretty ingenious. Check it out!
Breakfast Biscuits
I’m a sucker for a good sausage, egg, and cheese biscuit. I like the homemade version way better than McDonalds’, simply because I like the homemade biscuits better. But if I’m in a rush and I don’t have time to bake up a batch, I’ll just head over to Bryant’s.
Service is normally pretty quick on weekday mornings, but I haven’t really gone in the afternoons so I can’t comment on that time. The biscuits are really good, but the sausage is the kicker. It reminds me of homecooked meals on a Sunday morning at my grandmother’s house.
If you want a quality sausage biscuit, head over to Bryant’s on Summer (Memphis) to get a quality meal.
Have you ever been to Bryant’s? Would you rather make your own breakfast/biscuits at home?
So…you don’t have to have a license to drive in NASCAR??

I remember being 14.
I was just entering high school, boys were fresh on my mind, and I couldn’t wait until I was 16 in order to get my driver’s license. Normal thinking for a 14 year old girl, right? Well, the dreams of one 14 year old girl were slightly different.
This precarious teen, Katie Brice from Connecticut, has already raced on the NASCAR tracks. All this even before she gained her learner’s permit. I can only imaging how jealous her friends are! According to NASCAR, this year they have lowered the minimum age required to obtain a license to race from 16 to 14 in order to compete with other competitors that allow drivers at the age of twelve. Call me overprotective, but there’s no way that my twelve year old is getting behind the wheel of a car going 120 mph!
To her credit, Katie has a lot of training from her father, Jim “Smokey” Brice, who is also a NASCAR driver. Katie makes sure that you know she’s still a girlie teenager. With her pink SS Monte Carlo racer, pink socks that accent her racing outfit, and her favorite super hero, Batman, in the window, she’s definitely making a statement on the tracks.

What was your name again?

I can’t help it. I’m horrible with names! I’ll remember faces for days, but the name always escapes me! Many times I can’t even follow my friends’ stories because I have no clue as to whom they’re referring. Well, luckily I’ve found an article that intends on helping with this social faux pas.
It’s called the FACE method: Focus: lock in on the person’s face, Ask: Ask which version they prefer, Comment: Say something about the name and reference it in your head (My college roommate’s name was…), and Employ: Put the name to use (It was nice to meet you…).
Now, I’m not sure if this will work 100% of the time, but I’m up for trying!

A New Look for the $100 Bill
April 21, 2010 by akemp

Okay, now if counterfeiters can replicate this new $100 bill, then the future of the governments technology is in trouble.
Because of the recent increase in counterfeit bills floating around the country, the US Department of Treasury has taken to creating a brand new look for the good old Benjamin. Now instead of just the water mark and the portrait, the new bill includes at least 3 new security measures. One of them would make Harry Potter himself jealous! Well, maybe not, but it’s still kind of cool.
The new security thread located on the bill surpasses decades of technological advancement with the microprinted mobile image: When the bill is moved side to side, the image on the bill appears to move up and down, and it’s moved up and down, the image appears to move side to side. It may all just be an optical illusion, but hey, at least we won’t have to worry about people counterfeiting that bill…at least for a while.
The new bill will go into circulation later this year. Based on the video below, what do you think of the new design?
Go Green: Repurpose your magazines
Do you have stacks of magazines just lying around the house that you’re never going to read again? I know I do. I’ve had subscriptions to various magazines for years, and many times, when they came I would only read them once and then chuck them in a corner somewhere. Since everyone is so tuned in to recycling and going green these days, why not repurpose your magazines?
Well, I’ve stumbled upon an article detailing how you can make a decorative, colorful box out of your old magazine pages. If you’re creative like that.
It’s actually quite ingenious. I don’t think I’d have the time to actually sit down and do this, but if you do, go for it!

Expand your horizons! Attend Africa in April!

The Africa in April celebration has become a big deal around these parts.
If you’re looking to expand your cultural awareness, then I highly recommend this event.
If you can’t wait for authentic African food, fun, and displays, you don’t have to wait too much longer because the event begins tomorrow! The weekend’s free, family-friendly activities that take place primarily on Beale Street and in Robert Church Park, honor Nigeria.
The parade to kick-off the celebration began today at 10:30. It’s actually going on as I write this.
In case you’re missing it, the parade features Shaka Zulu, a Mardi Gras Indian from New Orleans, will do his renowned stilt dancing, as well as Nigerian dancers and quite possibly a Zulu float from New Orleans’ Mardi Gras. How exciting!
The Africa in April poster unveiling will be held at 6 p.m. at the National Civil Rights Museum.
I can’t stress how great of an event this is. Be sure to check out the events if you can!
Have you ever been to the Africa in April festival?
Toxic Shower Curtains?
That’s right people. Your shower curtains can be toxic. How, you ask? Well, you know that telltale smell when you open your brand new vinyl shower curtain? That’s the off-gassing of chemicals from PVC. An EPA study found that vinyl shower curtains can elevate air toxins in your home for more than a month.
What should you do to rectify the problem? Try buying shower curtains made from organic materials such as cotton and bamboo. You can find bamboo shower curtains here. Yes they can be a little pricey, but you have to pay for quality. What’s a few extra dollars now, than a couple hundred, and loads of mold and mildew down the line?

The 15th Annual Overton Square Crawfish Festival
Brings your bibs and build your appetite, because the crawfish is back in town! This Saturday is the 15th annual Overton Square Crawfish Festival. Organizers are blocking off Madison from Cooper to just past Florence in order to give the Festival more space.
The crawfish will be provided by Bayou Bar & Grill and they’ll also be stirring up some Louisiana favorites such as red beans and rice and gumbo. There’ll also be live music, an arts and crafts market and drinks for those who can legally partake.
Proceeds from food, beer, and crafts sales will benefit the Alzheimer’s Association.
Stay tuned to this blog for more crawfish festivals this month!
Are you interested in attending? What’s your favorite way to prepare crawfish?
