Great American Classic Movies at the Orpheum Memphis
Posted on July 29, 2010 · Leave a CommentHey Bailey Creek! Have you seen a movie at the Orpheum Theater lately? With all of the great new movies hitting theaters this summer, it may not be too appealing to view some of the older classics in a movie theater. But if you think about it, this is your chance to get the real movie experience if you weren’t around to see it when the movie first premiered. So, the Summer Movie Series is the perfect opportunity for you to see firsthand why these movies are American Classics. Plus, you know it’s not a waste of money because you already love so many of these movies.
The theater is showing some of the greatest movies of all time, and now they are in the final stretch. I know that paying to watch movies that were released long ago may not be the most favorable thing to do this summer, but it’ can really be fun! You can make a real movie experience out of it; popcorn, candy, and the added bonus of one of the biggest theater screens in Memphis!
Actually, some of my favorite movies of all time are playing at the Orpheum. One of them, Sound of Music is actually playing tonight at 7:15 pm. All movies are showing at 7:15 pm and you can catch the matinee (10:30 am) for a few of them. Be sure to check the website for details.
So if you’re not busy, come out to the Orpheum (about 30 minutes away) and enjoy the ultimate movie expereince for yourself! Here are the remaining movies:
- The Sound of Music – July 29
- The Wizard of Oz – July 30
- Top Gun – August 19
- Rocky Horror Picture Show – August 20
- Casablanca – September 17 (What a finale!)
Become a Health ‘Nut’ w/ Nutty Guys
Posted on July 26, 2010 · Leave a CommentHey Bailey Creek. Are you a ‘nut’ fanatic? Do you go crazy over cashews, wackoo over walnuts, or pine for peanuts, pistacchios, or pecans? If so, then you should definitely take advantage of today’s groupon for Memphis: $10 for $25 worth of nuts, dried fruits, and more from Nutty Guys.
Do you know how many nuts you can get from Nutty Guys with $25? A sizeable amount, that’s what. Nutty Guys has a very good selection of nuts, dried fruit, nut butter, candies, organic nuts, and much more. If you’re looking for a place to get a healthy snack and a semi-sweet treat, then this is your place. I’ve always been partial to honey roasted peanuts, and Nutty Guys seems to have some of the best.
If eaten sparringly, nuts can be a very healthy snack. Researchers found that people who eat nuts regularly have lower risks of heart disease. Instead of simply adding nuts to your diet, eat them in replacement of foods that are high in saturated fats and limit your intake of these tasty treats to 1 to 2 oz per day . For example, instead of adding chocolate chips when making cookies, sprinkle on some nuts. Or instead of making a deli meat sandwich, try a nut butter toast, and Nutty Guys can definitely help you out with the Nut Butter. I hear Nutella is good as well.
Take advantage of this groupon offer while you can; it’s for one day only! Check back tomorrow for your next deal!
Get A Taste of Bluff City!
Posted on July 22, 2010 · Leave a CommentHey Bailey Creek! Are there any residents out there who are new to the Memphis metro area? If so, I’m sure you’re exciting to taste and see all that the Memphis/Collierville area has to offer, and trust me, it’s a lot. Besides music, food (more specifically BBQ) is the heart and soul of Memphis. The City Tasting Tour of Memphis wants to introduce you to this, with a sampling of great food from local restaurants.
One of the most popular of the city tasting tours is the BBQ ‘Cue Hopping Tour’. You’ve heard of bar hopping right? Well this is ‘Cue’ hopping. On the tour, you’ll be visiting all of the restaurants that serve BBQ around town. You’ll not only be eating your hearts out with BBQ, but you’ll be right in the heart of town; Beale Street, the home of the blues, and the birthplace of Rock n’ Roll are all at your fingertips. Enjoy the sounds of local musicians as you tour the restaurants.
What kind of food can you look forward to? Well there’s: authentic southern style dry rubbed ribs, wet ribs dripping with sauce, spicy pulled pork, barbecued brisket, barbecued shrimp, cornbread, baked beans, and coleslaw.
This tour is Thursdays only at 3 pm, so it’s perfect for your summer free time. The cost of the ticket is $62 plus tax and well worth it. This will be your perfect introduction to the Memphis area.
Are you hungry yet?
Let’s Go Back to the Future @ the Orpheum!
Posted on July 19, 2010 · Leave a CommentHey Bailey Creek! What is your favorite old school movie? One of my favorite 80’s movies of all time is ‘Back to the Future‘. Apparently, other people love the movie as well, as it’s being featured at the Orpheum for their summer movie series, this coming Wednesday, July 21st.
So you know what that means? Yep Bailey Creek, it’s time to go back to 1985. The movie will show at the matinee (10:30 am) and the evening showings (7:15 pm). This is not your ordinary movie screening. There’s a contest before hand: all you have to do is dress like your future self. I’m not entirely sure what your future self will look like, but I’m sure you have an idea.
Tickets are $7 for adults and $6 for kids. They have a good assortment of other movies playing for the rest of the summer, so you should check them out if you get the chance.

Calgon Take Me Away…To Massage Therapy
Posted on July 13, 2010 · Leave a CommentSummer stress. I know you have had it, and I know you hate it. So what do you do to relieve that stress? Try a massage from Massage Therapy right here in Collierville.
A massage can be very, very relaxing. The soft music, aroma therapy, and the tension being released from your muscles takes you places you never thought that you could go after a stressful day at work, or after a long day period.
Massages can also have medical benefits. Scientific research has shown that massages have been linked to increases in immune function, decreases in stress levels and reduces recovery time due to ailments such as: allergies, depression and anxiety, arthritis, carpal tunnel syndrome, asthma and bronchitis, sports injuries, and even insomnia.
Massage Therapy offers a good selection of massages: trigger point, Swedish, deep tissue, sports, hot stone therapy, chair massage, prenatal, and more. There’s something for everybody! So guys, don’t shy away from massages; if you’re an active individual, a sports massage may be just what you need to revitalize your body.
The best thing about Massage Therapy is that they offer a $39 1-hour introductory massage special. That’s such a great price for a high quality massage! I definitely think you should try it out. I know I plan to.
What is your favorite kind of massage?

Scooters: The New Economical “It” Factor
Posted on July 8, 2010 · Leave a CommentHey Bailey Creek! Do you own a scooter? If so, be prepared to see more around town, because they are starting to reach another height in their popularity, especially around the Memphis area.
In these harsh economic times, investing in a scooter doesn’t seem so bad. They’re so economically efficient. According to an article from Commercial Appeal, a 65 year old scooter rider only pays $3 a week on gas for his scooter and that gives him at least 100 mpgs. Now, I don’t know how the schematics of that works, but it sure sounds good!
The great things about scooters is that there isn’t an age cap! Of course you have to be of a certain age to buy and ride one, but people young and old can ride them! Memphis Vespa/Metro Moto (3125 Poplar Ave) speaks on how their sales have increased this year, after a definite drop once the economy took a down turn.
Yes sales have improved, but not as dramatically as one would hope. I see it rising in the future. Scooters are fun!
What do you think is the most beneficial part of having a scooter?
National Fried Chicken Day
Posted on July 6, 2010 · Leave a CommentSeriously, who comes up with these makeshift holidays? Granted, a day named after one of my favorite foods is appealing, but unnecessary. There is no knowledge of when the day started or why; it’s just one of those holidays that’s just there, like all of the other food ‘holidays’. Oh well, if you can’t beat them, join them.
So where can you get some really good fried chicken around Collierville? Well, if you want to go with a national chain, then “Popeyes” is always a good bet. But if you want a local favorite, try Uncle Lou’s, Gus’s World Famous Fried Chicken, or Jack Pirtle’s. They all have really good chicken, but I hear that Gus’s is the best. It has to be called ‘world famous‘ for a reason, right?
Only you can be the judge, however. So Bailey Creek, I’d love to have your opinion; where can we find the best fried chicken in the Collierville/Memphis area?
Directions to Gus’s from Bailey Creek (Closest)
Turn right at W Poplar Ave. Turn right at Walnut St. Turn left at N Rowlett St. Take the 1st right onto N Center St, and Gus’ will be on your right.

Bring your family & friends to enjoy live entertainment, good food, children’s activities and a spectacular fireworks show – Don’t forget your lawn chairs! I repeat: DON’T FORGET YOUR LAWN CHAIRS!
